Swimmy
photo via flickr
Our fish died yesterday. This is the very same fish that elicits this response from guests, "Is your fish dead?" (He doesn't, well, didn't move much.) Now he really is dead. The kids got him nearly two years ago for Christmas. Frankly, I'm surprised he lasted this long. Roxcy first noticed him laying on his side at the bottom of the bowl. She was in tears. I worried about how Jonah would react, because Swimmy has been his responsibility. Roxcy told him in a quivering voice and Jonah took it all in and then said in a "I've got a great - exciting - surefire plan (we hear that voice a lot at our house), "Mom, let's play a trick on Dad. Let's call him and say, 'Someone in our house died,' and he'll be like 'WHAT! WHAT!' and he'll rush home and then we'll tell him it's just Swimmy."

Sorry about your loss, but Jonah is hilarious.
hahaha jonah is awesome. josh would have LOVED that. that swimmy was a trooper. two years in fish years is a ton.
I used to have a fish that looked just like your picture. They do always look like they are dead. Sorry for your loss. :(
Jonah Rocks!
So how did Josh react?
Jonah is so great. I love that kids think of any way to get Dad home.
wish i could use that liner to get dad home too! smart kid.
That is spoken like a true adventure loving boy. All beta fish should come with a "buy me and get 6 fish free" coupon. We can't keep them alive for more than a few weeks in our house. Two years is an eternity.
Too bad about swimmy, but it's good to hear that Jonah is already taking it in a joking mood.
What a great story!!
So funny!
