Grandma Kelly's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Wanda Thomas Kelly age 2

My grandma always had wonderful things to eat at her house. First thing upon your arrival she would offer you cookies or cake. Sometimes we'd come for dinner and she'd offer huge portions of steak and mashed potatoes. She made a wonderful chocolate cake and if you said, "no, thanks" she'd insist, "just a sliver" and then present you with an enormous slice of two layer cake. She lives in a care facility now and her biggest complaint is about the food. I wish I were close to bring her some of these goodies.

Grandma Kelly's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

(These make a ton, perfect to take to the park and share with friends, or form into logs and freeze for later baking.)

3 cubes butter
1 1/2 c. brown sugar

1 c. white sugar

4 eggs

2 t. vanilla
Cream together until fluffy. Add:
3 c. flour

2 t. soda
1 t. salt
4 c. oatmeal

1 c. chocolate chips (I always use a whole bag)

1 c. coconut

1 c. nuts (optional)

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto greased baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 minutes.

Actually I cut the sugar a bit from her original recipe and added the coconut---with all the sugar she used they were very flat--and sweet! Dad really likes the addition of coconut. You are making me really hungry lately!

Are these the ones you gave me one time? I don't even think we baked the dough. We just ate it. It was so yummy!
