Ok, all you aspiring Project Runway candidates, I need some opinions on this subject. Roxcy received this dress from a cousin, I think she wore it to a wedding. As you can tell from the picture there is a stain on the bodice. My question is, can I somehow transform this and make it into a pretty but hip Easter dress? Should I cut off the bodice and pair it with a cardigan set or dye the skirt and put an oxford and big sash with it? The detail on the skirt is pretty, but does the white just scream wedding or communion? Please help me with ideas!

I like the cardigan idea. You always need a cardigan with an Easter dress here in NY because it's too chilly at Easter time anyway. Good luck. I am no help with sewing ideas. You'd never guess I was the daughter of an amazing quilter.
I like the idea of dying it and then take the sleeves off (if possible) and add a cute cardigan like you said. Oh and a big sash is a great idea... So pretty much what you said. I'm really no help. But hi anyway.
I would cut the skirt off and dye it a cool color and pair it with a cardigan and shell in a coordinating color. But, a plain one without embroidery or embellishments since the skirt already has enough.

What color would you dye it? I imagine the detailing on the skirt would take the dye differently (is that the right word?) than the background so it might be very lovely---would you leave the net under it? What about making another bodice from the original pattern? Actually the cardigan is a good idea.

I really don't think dying it will work. Dying an already comercially "prepared" fabric rarely does. I think you will end up with streaks and a gross color because of the chemicals they already have on the dress. They put on all kinds of chemicals to retain its "crispness". Anyway, I don't think you would be happy with the results. This is what I would do...I would take the skirt off the bodice. Make a new skirt and new bodice from a beautiful easter egg color (your daughters favorite, of course). Use that beautiful skirt from this dress as an overlay to your new skirt...maybe leave 2-3 inches of the new color hanging below the lace edging...It would look so delicate and pretty. I would use all that tulle underneath the new skirt (it won't show, but it would make it hang like the purchased dress). Unless your daughter isn't in to the poofy look. I don't know how old she is, but they do seem to reach that age. It would look very Eastery and springy instead of communiony. Plus, you can use the recycled parts and not feel wasteful.
I always wanted a white dress as a little girl and never got one - maybe that was why the wedding dress was so important. I would keep it white and add a easter hat, little white gloves and pink shoes. And maybe just throw a cardigan on over top.
I'm inclined to agree about the dying being unpredictable. I'm for any of the skirt/cardigan suggestions. A clutch of thin, spring colored ribbons hanging front or back would get away from the communion look. Maybe sew lace flowers to the bottom of each ribbon to go with the lace skirt look. Show us the final result!
