Happy Pioneer Day!

I've been trying to think of some things to do with the kids for pioneer day today. They are old enough that it is interesting and they get it and I feel like this is my year to start possible traditions. We will tell pioneer stories, mostly from their ancestors. Maybe we'll act a few out . . . . . but I need some more ideas. I would love to do something food related. What was/is traditional in your family?

while we have no traditions for this day in our family, i've always thought it would be fun to churn butter or something. don't boil leather and have your seminary class drink it like my mom tried to do...she says that's what the pioneers did for nourishment...but we don't need to do that anymore!

Once I served a Sunday School class jerky and cornbread with molasses, to go with a pioneer lesson. I usually get out the little covered wagon that Jake made years ago and set it on the front table during July.
