Look who's two

Two year old birthdays are the best. Petrea was absolutely delighted with every detail. The bright banner (courtesy of pretty little things), the bouquet of helium balloons, the cake, singing happy birthday (a million bazillion times). I tried Smitten Kitchen's best birthday cake. The cake was delish but the frosting tasted too much like sour cream. Both the kids and adults found it off putting.

P loves pushing her new doll stroller and Elmo doll around. Little strollers are so great for two year olds.

Happy Birthday Patrea!!! How can our babies be 2 already? Ava loves her stroller, too. In fact I have to hide it from her sometimes.

So, here's some random input from a total stranger (I linked to your blog from Liz Stanley's). Just because a perfect birthday cake is important stuff!

Most of the recipes I've made from Deb (Smitten Kitchen) have been really good. I've made, just guessing here, 2 or 3 dozen of her recipes--seriously. She and I have pretty similar taste. Like I said, most of the time I really like them. Sometimes, though, I think she does too much reinventing of wheels that were perfectly fine to begin with. Know what I mean? I think she tweaks every single recipe she makes, from its original version. I, on the other hand, always make a recipe to the letter the first time, so that I can decide what needs to be done to improve it, if anything.

Anyway. When I saw her "perfect birthday cake" recipe, I wasn't tempted at all to try it. Because I already have the perfect traditional birthday cake! Seriously, next time you need to make one, go to cookinglight.com (trust me, don't worry about the "light" part), and search for "yellow sheet cake with chocolate frosting". It is the most perfect birthday cake I've made, and cakes are kinda my thing!

By the way, when I make recipes from Cooking Light for dessert, I kinda ignore the "fat-free" and "reduced fat" instructions in the recipes. i.e. this recipe calls for fat-free sour cream and fat-free cream cheese. I use full fat! It's dessert for heaven's sake! And I can only vouch for the perfection of this recipe if you go with the full-fat stuff, because that's the way I've made it and that's the way everyone has raved about it. :)
