The Lee Lou Ann
The first apartment I lived in as a married person was called the Lee Lou Ann. It was written in big steel fancy script letters and attached to the side of the building. It wasn't a big building, only three or four appartments. You entered on the second floor from the back, the side that faced the alley and the front door was a sliding glass door. Underneath the apartment was a garage. I have memories of driving into the garage with a bike on the car more than once and listening, while studying, for the sound of the garage door which meant Josh was home from a late night of waiting tables. We shared an alley with a few restaurants including Geppetto's, Market Street Broiler, and some funky deli with stuff like eggplant lasagna and lentils which I loved and Josh didn't. We'd go to the Broiler and sit at the counter and eat clam chowder and sourdough bread. It was so yummy. The first Christmas after we were married (as of 12 days) we cooked a huge dinner together in our little lee lou ann kitchen. We had spinach feta triangles and artichokes and salmon and sparkling grape juice and we ate together just the two of us. We didn't live in the Lee Lou Ann long, we soon moved to the Franciscan, which is another story.

I love this Lee Lou Ann story.
I was going to ask you about the name of your blog and where it came from. Cool story. Now I know.
I love it too. The first kitchen of your very own. . . sweet.
what a great place to live...next to market street...i never knew that...sweet memory
Ah Ha! So, that's it! You must not have lived there long, because I don't remember visiting you there, but I do remember coming to your apartment at the Franciscan. The first place together is always cool, even if it isn't.
I went by the Lee Lou Ann last week and thought of you two. It still looks sweet.
