Movie Night

Movie night is a monthly tradition at our house. We always have pizza, popcorn and treats (the kids want Starburst tonight), sometimes root beer floats or ice cream. I'm having a hard time with movie selection, maybe Harriet the Spy or Matilda. Although my husband won't agree (he's partial to the Pie), the pizza is better in New York. We love the thin crust, super fresh but simple ingredient variety like you find at Grimaldi's. I use tomato sauce (right out of the can, add salt if it's not salted), fresh mozarella (slice into thin rounds and then place on top of sauce, don't cover every space or it will be soggy), sticks of pepperoni cut into rounds, and fresh basil leaves. I'm still working on throwing the dough so it becomes evenly thin, but I did find this tutorial to help me. (Did you know there was a US pizza team?) I use Martha Stewart's pizza crust recipe. You only have to allow 30 min. of rising time, so I start it when the movie begins and pizza is ready during "intermission." If you have one, use a food processor to mix the dough. Because it's such a small amount of dough this always works better for me than in the mixer. Happy Movie Night!

Ashlynn makes really yummy pizza too. Sometimes I pick up some dough from our local pizza place for $2. Then I use a really yummy pizza sauce from Williams Sonoma and lots of fresh ingeredients.

We haven't done it in a while though. Last time we did it the hot pizza landed on my arm.

My kids wish they lived at your house. Rather than "movie night" my kids got home from school at 3:00 and finished their work at 6:00. We call it our "heavy work day".

My kids got bagel pizzas last night and then I went to bunco.

Grimaldi's style pizza is our favorite too. When I'm not up for making dough, I use those premade Boboli crusts.

This is my favorite quote from The Office:

Michael Scott is giving a tour of New York and says"..and here is one of my favorite New York Pizza joints. So excuse me but I am going to go get me a New York slice!" and then he walks into a Sbarros.

erin i think on this one i might need a personal lesson and supervision on how to make good pizza dough without a kitchenaid mixer. i've tried it twice and i just don't get exactly how i'm supposed to mix it before it rises, and what it's supposed to feel and look like when i've done it right.
also, have you tried the premade whole wheat dough from trader joe's? it's pretty good

Hey there's a Grimaldi's just a couple blocks away from us in Hoboken!
